Taking control over a 24h stream when DJ connects

Postby Hensley » Thu Jan 08, 2004 5:44 pm

Hi,

we have an internet radio station up and running for about 6 month now. Still using Icecast2, Shoutcast as servers and some winamp plugins to do live streaming. 24h stream comes from an installed winamp thats playing all the time.

So now we want to make it a little bit more professional with an automatic radio software like drs 2006. For now we got the problem that we have 2 streams/mountpoints. /stream1 is the 24h stream and /stream2 is the DJ stream.

Is it possible to stream only on one stream/mountpoint and when a DJ connects the 24h stream will be overidden by the DJ stream ? After the DJ disconnects the 24h stream should run again as normal.

thx for information ... _Hensley_

PS: sorry for my bad english ... =)

Yes you can do that simply by "kicking" the 24 hours stream source via the ShoutCast DNAS admin page.

Here's a way:

PC-1 running 24 hours stream, set the encoders to "auto reconnect" after about 5-10 secs.

Let's say PC-1 is streaming and PC-2 (DJ) wish to take over - Login to the SHoutCast DNAS > Admin > and you should see "Source: Ip.xxx.xxx.xxx [kick]" Click on KICK and PC-1 encoders will be disconnected from the server. PC-2 will then be able to connect to the server.

After a DJ disconnect PC-2 encoders from the server, PC-1 will automatically connect to the server cuz the encoders has been set to auto reconnect.

There you go. Hope this helps.

Great !

Thats exactly what we need =)

But another question if you don´t mind. Is it possible to send the stream vom drs2006 to both servers at the same time ? Problem here is that there are no tcl scripts for icecast radios. So we build up a shoutcast server to deal with that problem and relayed it to the icecast.

It would be great to send a 24h stream to both servers at same time and when a DJ connects he would kill the 24h stream and take over.

After he disconnects the 24h streams both would connect again due to "auto reconnect"

Sure! With the DRS 2006 Internet Broadcaster, you can stream to multiple servers and even using multiple formats from plain mp3, mp3PRO, WMA9 to OggVorbis...simultaneously.

Hi Rendy,

is there any software or any machine (sounds complicated but I heard that)
PC 1 is broadcasting some music then a software that goes every seconds to check an IP:PORT and when he founds a audio stream with more than some db he start to switch. e.g fade down the main music and put up the sound of the stream.

Meanwhile the transition a jingle could be played for the style

Well a heard a guy from a webradio that said to me he was using a kinda "machine" that he called "audio switcher"

Is that true ? / possible ?

thanks

Hi,

Some devices do exaclty the job, yes.
How does it work:
When no audio is coming from Input 1, the device will automatically switch to Input 2.
Take a look at a french company called RAMI. They have these kind of devices.
