My question, you state:

"So we have a lightning fast "database" which also works brilliant over the network. Actually is is no real database system anymore, so it won't slow down your system at all. "

What will store the intro/segue values etc if there is "no real database system" ... even SAM uses a database to store data.

We of course store all the data in index files, but we do not need any heavy weight database systems like firebird or mysql anymore. Like mentioned this is a new generation software and not based anymore on code that is several years old.

Interesting concept... I understand devel is likely 'far enough' into now not to change things but have you ever thought about storing the the data in the headers simuilar to how BSI does for their simian automation... The Intro/Segue/Artist/Title/Album/ etc data is all stored in the header of the .wav or .mp3 file they have a free utility called Info Edit that allows editing this information... Even editors such as cool edit can read the data as its part of the 'cart chunk' format.. Just food for thought.

Well it is like this, except that we do not to touch every single audio file, which does not make much sense. We want speed and maximum flexibility. And this is how you do it today in 2011.

Everything will be new. We have a few new strategies using newest technologies and coded by a new team.

Hi,

no, I am sorry. This makes absolutely no sense for us to put a lot of time in a Linux development to sell it maybe a dozen times.

To bad.
I would love to take my station of all those windows based pc's.
It would even save some money sinds I would no longer need to buy the OS.

With some luck I might get it running...
have to wait on the first beta for that.

If your so die-hard for linux (which is not designed for audio -- but for servers) .. then you should likely look at one of the linux based automation software packages.. Windows seems to be the best fit for Radio.. (all the big name softwares run on windows based systems)

My dear collegue broadcaster,

it is not because everybody does it that it is better.
Have a look at linux based OS.
It is no longer the basic rude software it once used to be.
They have some very nice interfaces now.

Have a look (and try it on a pc). http://www.ubuntu.com/
You might find it interesting.

What you also should keep in mind that linux OS comes for free.
For some people on this forum it could make a difference to buy a new pc with windows licence or one without.

Kind regards,
Kris

Oh well, I do not think this is the right place to discuss about how good the one or the other OS is. Fact is that most people use Windows because of several reasons and those are the people who use DRS 2006. And honestly before thinking about a Linux version, we would build a MAC version. But in both cases the structure is totally different than on Windows and we would have to build everything new.

Mark;
I realize that putting together a program such as the 2006 is a major effort, and I thank you for working on the various models and beta versions. I for one am anxious to see the new beta version as well as many radio operators throughout the world.
Congrats on making the dream a reality and for making all the owners od DRS 2006 proud to be part of this fantastic program
