DRS 2006 Version 4 is finally here!



Hi guys, we finally want to start with the release of our brand new DRS 2006 V4. This new DRS 2006 is a totally new development with new databases, new technologies, new strategies and of course tons of new features. Get ready for a complete relaunch of DRS 2006. FINALLY!

At the moment we are looking for 10-20 experienced DRS 2006 users which want to help us to finalize this software. Please email me directly to mark@drs2006.com and tell me which version of DRS 2006 you are using and since when you are using it. We will then send you the information you need to install the new software.

We then ask you to post anything you think about the new version right here in this forum.
Of course we also want you post any bug or other problem you have found as well as any misspelling or misleading expressions etc.

Please also read the before you post that any important feature is missing. We have changed the software structure, so all additional features will be integrated with our new plugin system. We already have an extra thread to collect all your .

Right below this post you will find a version history with a download link. You will need the password we have sent you via email. After installing the software needs an online authentication. Please use the key code we have sent in the email. Please be aware that this key code will only work on one PC and for a time limit of 5 months. If you need to install the DRS 2006 on some other hardware, please contact me, so we can reset the key code.

Now you should have a working DRS 2006 on your PC. At the moment we do not have any manuals, but it should be very easy to start using the software. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them here in this forum. Also if you find any bug, misspelling or misleading expressions, please post this here. Please do NOT post any missing feature. We want to collect them in our plugin request forum. At the moment, we just want this version with its features to be 100%.

In the version history we will post all known and confirmed bugs. Also all confirmed cosmetic changes which will be made.

As soon as we have uploaded a new version, we will send you an email. Simply uninstall and reinstall the software. If something else needs to be deleted, we will also announce this.

- This version now includes the basic DRS 2006 V4 and also the first 2 plugins. The "DRS 2006 Sound Processor Plugin" and the "DRS 2006 Effect Bench Plugin" which have to be installed separately. We have registered these 2 plugins for all beta testers so they should be activated automatically when starting DRS 2006.
- You can change the Album Cover by dragging an image from the windows explorer to any row of the database editor.
- To prelisten fades you simply select the cue and press play in the wavelet in playlist and database editor
- DRS2006Cast completely implemented to work with our new DRS 2006 Community Radio Manager. Means that we have a own Server which can handle many different broadcasters on one stream/station. You can manage users and schedule radio shows. It is just going online in the first radio stations in Germany. More about this software coming soon.

So far all looks good, could do with adding the ability to search via genre though.

Also a next button would be handy for getting out of those situations where you think you've got the radio edit of eminem and then find out you haven't.

The 'Radio Edit' solution is all in the naming of the file. If you trust pulling the right one from embedded info, there's always a chance the wrong one will get played.
Example:
CelineDion_IWantToBeSedated.mp3
CelineDion_IWantToBeSedated-RadioEdit.mp3

Sorry, that was just meant as an example for when you need to quickly change tracks.

Another instance would be if a file has become corrupt and is not playing correctly. It would be good to have the ability to quickly skip to the next track.

Hi Mark, having problems with the beta on Windows 8
It worked for a bit and then crashed when I changed the theme.

I've uninstalled and re-installed and now it won't load

Any thoughts?

Hi George,

ok, I need to know what exactly you have done to make it crash. If you can't reinstall, please deinstall the software and delete GeneralOptions.dat in:

C:\Users\XXXXXX\Appdata\Local\DRS2006V4

before reinstalling.

I suppose a theme is broken and the software tries to load the theme when starting. When deleting these files, you delete the options..

Mark, I deleted that file and started DRS (without reinstalling) and it worked. It lost the key but I just put it back in. I'm back in now

I was trying out themes when it crashed, probably about 4 or 5 in to the list.
Maybe if it can#t read the file, it should read a default file which resets the theme.

Hi Mark,

I have just re-created this problem on Windows 7, fixed it the same way.

Error occurred when I tried to use the Office2010 Blue and Office 2010 Silver colour schemes.

All others have worked fine.

When trying to set an intro, is there a quicker way than real time. When i click on the vertical line to move it (it says intro) it moves the cue in line. Could one be at the bottom at one at the top so you can drag the line properly without having to move the other one first when doing intro

Also an option, similar to what you have with cue out, to listen to the intro point from say 2 seconds before it. If using the wav file only, a zoom option would be very beneficial.

Finally a tick option to save each time you move down a track, either that or have a save & exit button rather than just a save.

Will let you know more as I test

The enter button works (as does the spacebar) to move onto the next song in the playlist.
However, when the orange cursor is highlighted on a song further down, the enter and spacebar keys no longer work. You have to press start on the screen, to activate it again and at that point the spacebar and enter start to work again.

Similarly, if a song ends and you have pressed stop, you can't start by pressing enter or the spacebar, it has to be the start button. Again this would be easier if the keys worked.

As there is only a small red/pink square (plus small icon) to highlight if the playout will stop after the current song, could you make the grey speaker on the main title bar change to red when stop is activated. Much more prominent for DJ's to see when doing things quickly.

Can the delete key be added as a keystroke for deleting a song from the main playlist screen. I've also moved the grey speakers to the end of the log (right hand side)
How about being able to have a stop and start speaker icon there (ie stopping in advance on the log so you don't just have the ability to stop the current song that is playing) (maybe red/green or grey/red)

When you hit stop (and the song ends) it would be nice that the song info stays on screen so you can read what just played. Now you only get the DRS logo and an empty screen. Also beeing able to scroll back in the songs played previously would be nice.

Have the Beta up and running in one of our Studios on Win 7. Had the same crash issue noted thus far, but a simple deletion of the GeneralOptions.dat corrected problem.

One Install Question - We installed under our Administrator Login and entered the Registration Code there. However, normal usage is always done under a Standard User Login. Starting DRS under the Standard User Login results in the program requesting the Registration Code again, which is not accepted. The program will only start under the main Admin Login.

Is there a way to populate the Registration down to this lower level Login Account on the same machine? Or is it only possible to be registered under one Login Account on the same machine?

Linking to above post

Activation info stored in C:\users\xxxxx\appdata\local is going to cause problems in any domain environment. Not only will it mean activating for all users but the c:\users\xxxxx\appdata\local folder is deleted on log off. The only appdata folder to be saved by default is "roaming". May want to consider moving the files to there.

However, this will not solve the activation per user issue, you could user the C:\ProgramData\DRS2006V4 folder instead. This would activate per computer and hopefully resolve all the problems in one go. User data such as color scheme could be stored in appdata\roaming.

One last thing, in previous versions of DRS the database location could be customized, could this be put into this version with support for mapped drives please.
