V2.2, Win 7 & network

Postby evw » Mon Jan 07, 2013 11:13 pm

After having V2.2 successfully installed on a Win 7 system, DRS is unable to recognize the network drives. Is there some workaround to play audio files located on a server? Under XP there was no problem at all.

OK, found the solution myself. Entering the network path manually in the drs2006.ini allows to put network directories as audio sources. The Digital Data and Digital Playlist folders should remain locally as putting them on the server slows DRS down up to unusabilty.

Update: We tried V2.2 under Windows 7 now for two weeks on air - we have given up and return tu XP. Every day there were 3 - 4 incidents where the program stopped, crashed or didn't play scheduled tracks. We've tried everything: changing user control settings, compatibility settings, relocating the music folder on a local harddrive.

This now sets a timetable for us: V4 has to be ready to use by early next spring (end of XP), or we have to change to another option.

Right, you can enter the paths manually.

V2.2 is as stable as V2.11. What error messages do you get? Maybe be a driver problem.

As I wrote, the program stopped randomly about 3 - 4 times a day, froze a number of times and skipped some of the scheduled tracks. At first I thought it was a network problem, but this continued even after putting the database and all music files on the local harddisk. There shouldn't be a driver problem - this was an out of the box Fujitsu business pc with only a m-audio audiophile 2496 soundcard added. Furthermore the problems continued after going back to XP on another pc with V2.2 and vanished after downgrading back to V2.1. At least on our systems there is something in V2.2 which doesn't work as well as V2.1. Maybe it has something to do with our big music folder with about 14.500 files in it, but our main playout system which is still a pentium 3, windows XP and DRS V2.1 installed worked with this for the last ten years 24/7 without any hiccup.

Just to verify, upgrading to 2.2 deleted the original entry here?

Since V2.1 isn't running on Win7, there was no point in setting up a previous installation. In a fresh installation all audio directories point to drive C:
Under WinXP you can set up network drives and define them as audio directories in the database connector. Under Win7 the network drives are not shown in the database connector, so you have to enter the drives manually in the ini-file.

Hi,

if the setting of the network path does not work, please find bdeadmin.exe and set the path there for the Alias Digitaldata.
